Our Community Greetings once again from the Chippewa Cree Tribe and Tribal Business Committee. A few years have gone by since the last edition, but at long last, the 2008 Rocky Boy Community Resource Directory is here for your use. The Directory has been updated to reflect all the changes in the Tribal Government and community over the past few years. We hope the Directory will be a useful resource for you and the community as a whole.
Since our last
edition, there have been a lot of changes throughout the Rocky Boy
Community. A new Clinic (Nah-tos Healing Center) and Wellness Center
have been built and are in full operation. Northern Winz Casino,
with its wide range of gaming entertainment, is also in operation.
Expansion has been completed on Bonneau Dam and major work has been
done on East Fork Dam. The Chippewa Cree Tribal offices have moved
to the former Clinic Building. Construction has begun on a new
Senior Citizens Center. Planning is currently underway to establish a low powered FM station to serve the Rocky Boy Community within a 2-year time frame. Through funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the establishment of the O-chi-pwew and Ne-i-yahw Initative will provide our community with the tools to help our people deal with obstacles we face in our daily lives. Violence and the access by our youth to drugs & alcohol in the community has continued to skyrocket. Drugs continue to destroy our community. Our community has to change in order for our youth to find that success we pray for each day in hopes that they will prosper. This new initiative incorporates our cultural practices and beliefs into preventative education and activities for all age groups within our community. With the help of SAMHSA and other vital resources, we can build a safe and nurturing environment using the cultural values and knowledge of generations past to ensure the well-being of our children and grandchildren. We need to provide our young people with the understanding and knowledge they need to meet the daily challenges they're faced with. They need the direction and skills to create an economically and culturally flourishing community.
