Enrollment Department


The Enrollment Department is responsible for accepting enrollment applications, reviewing applications for completion and forwarding to the Enrollment Sub-Committee for their review.

 

Enrollment Sub-Committee

 

The Enrollment Committee reviews all applications for enrollment and in accordance with the Chippewa Cree Constitution and By-Laws, Membership Ordinance, and Resolution 13-91, recommends to the Business Committee approval or denial of an enrollment application. The Enrollment Committee has the authority to require the applicant to furnish any evidence in support of the application as it deems necessary to make appropriate recommendations to the Business Committee. The Chippewa Cree Business Committee has the final approving authority for approval or denial of all enrollment applications.

 

Tribal Enrollment Process

 Eligibility Criteria

  1. All members of the Rocky Boy's Band of Chippewas enrolled as of June 1, 1934;

  2. All Children born to any member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of the Rocky Boy's Reservation who is a resident of the reservation at the time of birth of said children;

  3. All children of one-half (1/2) or more indian blood to a non-resident member of the tribe;

  4. All children born to a non-resident member who meets the criteria outlines in Chippewa Cree resolution 13-91;

  5. Enrollment by Adoption - Any Indian, one-half blood or more and a resident of Montana, not a member of any other reservation, may become a member of this organization provided that two-thirds or more of the eligible voters cast their ballots at such election, and provided further that two-thirds of those voting at such election vote in favor of such adoption.

The Burden of Proof shall be upon the applicant to establish all elements of his/her entitlement to enrollment or enrollment by adoption under the tribal constitution and rules and regulations of the Membership Ordinance

 

Please note:

The application form must be completed in its entirety, including all documents, and is the responsibility of the applicant or applicant sponsor. If an incomplete application is received, the application will be returned for completion, and will result in a delay of the application being processed.

 

 Tribal Enrollment Committee

  • The Enrollment Committee members :

  • Ken Writing Bird / Board Chairman

  • Tribal Council Members

  • The Committee does the actual certification of enrollment;

  • They meet monthly to review and approve applications.

  Membership Identification Cards

  • The membership card identifies tribal members as enrolled members with a federally recognized tribe;

  • Membership cards are automatically issued to certified new members approximately 1 week after the Enrollment Committee meets;

  • Replacement cards are $10.00.  Id request forms are available upon request.

Enrollment Summary

  • Application is submitted to Enrollment Office;

  • Application is reviewed by Enrollment Staff, if necessary, additional documentation is requested;

  • Application, when complete, is submitted to the next scheduled Enrollment Committee Meeting;

  • Tribal Enrollment Committee either approves or disapproves the application;

  • Applicant is notified of Committee action;

  • Applicants are entered into the Chippewa Cree database and if approved issued Chippewa Cree Tribal membership cards;

  • Application is then filed;

  • All Blood Quantum correction requests are reviewed and considered for corrections only by the Enrollment Committee.
